Michel Foucault (1926-1984)

The philosopher Michel Foucault (1926-1984) was the author of a major œuvre, which has been translated into many languages, from Folie et déraison. Histoire de la folie à l’âge classique (1961), Les Mots et les Choses (1966), L’Archéologie du savoir (1969) and Surveiller et punir (1975) to L’Histoire de la sexualité (3 vols., 1976-1984), by way of his numerous courses given at the Collège de France. He travelled twice to Iran between September and November 1978, to make reports for the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera and the French magazine Le Nouvel Observateur (see Michel Foucault, Dits et écrits, vol. 2, 1976-1988, Paris, Gallimard, 2001, p. 679-694 and 701-716).
