Fari Shams (born in Tehran in 1976) works in Düsseldorf and London. Her interdisciplinary art praxis involves knowledge production systems in both the encyclopaedic and 2.0 spheres, data analysis systems, and forms of ‘publishing’ this knowledge. Her work attests to our primary need for organization and classification, and the sense of incompleteness that often hallmarks it. In so doing, she draws our attention to the social, linguistic and technological parameters of our ‘research methods’ (slide show, film, book, script, multimedia installation). Her installations have recently been shown at the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato (Italy), at the Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach, at the Kunstraum München, Munich, at the Maschinenhaus, Essen, and at the Museum Glaskasten, Marl.
