The Lebanese-American poet, essayist, playwright and painter Etel Adnan (born in 1925 in Beirut) divides her time between Lebanon, France and the United States. She taught philosophy in California for 14 years and is a powerful voice in the feminist and anti-war movements. Among her works of poetry and fiction, we should mention Sitt Marie Rose (1978), a report about the Lebanese civil war between 1975 and 1990, The Spring Flowers On (1990), Master of the Eclipse (2009) and In the Heart of the Heart of Another Country (2005). Documenta 13 in Kassel showed her paintings in 2012.
